Brooklyn Summer Players
(Brooklyn Players Summer Program)

Brooklyn Summer Players is a 4-week musical theater program for twenty-five 8-13 year olds (entering 3rd - 8th grades in the fall.)  The program rents the third floor of Elise Long's beautiful performance and dance space at 295 Douglass Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues in Park Slope, Brooklyn.  For Summer 2009, the program will run weekdays from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 24 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  Shows will be performed on Wednesday July 22 and Thursday July 23 at 2:00 p.m.  The program is closed on Friday, July 3.

Every summer we adapt an adult or family musical into an age-appropriate one-hour fully staged show.  Everyone is cast in the show with a named part, costume, lines and the opportunity to be in at least two musical numbers.  The emphasis ot Brooklyn Summer Players is on cooperation and ensemble work, and each child is given the opportunity to grow and push themselves in a non-threatening environment with a professional and nurturing staff.

In addition to work on sets - and singing, acting and dance rehearsals for the show - the program includes separate art, theater arts, dance and vocal technique classes.  We have daily outdoor recreation at the Thomas Greene Playground across the street, and swimming twice a week at the Douglass Street Pool down the block.

The fee for 2009 is $1,350.  Applications need a $200 non-refundable deposit made out to "Brooklyn Summer Players" (check returned if your child is not accepted), with the full fee due by June 1.  Send the  printable application  to Brooklyn Summer Players, 435 7th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215.  No refunds after June 20 unless a replacement can be found.  Applications received by March 1 will receive a decision about acceptance into the program by March 15.  There is a 5% discount for siblings.

All children bring their own lunches, snacks and water bottles to the program.  Brooklyn Summer Players doesn't provide transportation, but many of our C.I.T.'s and Junior Counselors are available for after-program care.  We will send out a list of families with phone numbers and addresses in June so that families can plan car pools or other shared transportation.

If your application is accepted you will receive an emergency contact form and a parent/child questionnaire.  There are montly open-houses at Corinne's home where you can meet her and see a video of last summer's production.  Call her for dates or with any other questions.
